MEMORY OMEGA EXTRACT / PERSONAL LOG: LAFORGE

Maddox was at it again, knocking down almost every idea I, came up with. And the ones he didn’t, Tuvok did…like a Nausicaan swinging a parrises squares mallet.
First, I thought that maybe establishing an intra-ship link where the ship’s computer could monitor his actions and maybe, just maybe, it could react fast enough to block certain commands before he can fully execute them. Maddox didn’t hesitate to point out that those commands would have to be predefined and that there’s no way we could cover all eventualities and still leave Data as an effective officer.
I suppose I knew that before I even opened my mouth.
Then there was the personal force field generator Data would wear with a high repulsion factor that would activate in restricted stations, preventing him from interacting with them. It was a stupid idea, but I said it anyway. His position at Ops would be a restricted station.
Even if he were assigned to the arboretum, Maddox didn’t think it was a stretch to think that Data could bypass security safeguards on the emitter and reprogram it. By the time he and Tuvok were done bouncing it back and forth, they had Data turning it into a personal deflector shield as a part of whole other ship-takeover scenario.
Captain Thalla cut them off before they derailed the whole day, but she consistently twitching her antennae in my direction. I wonder if she knows she’s doing that.
It goes without saying, this is a difficult assignment, but I have a duty here. Even though every measure and countermeasure I thought of was, maybe, not the best idea I could have and were all shot down, every single one hurt me to say out loud.
I don’t know that I can keep doing this.
